Dragon Star Martial Arts… Happy 56th Birthday, TaeKwon-Do!

It was April 11th, 1955 when General Choi Hong Hi named TaeKwon-Do.  Although it may sound like a long time ago, it’s still an infant compared to some martial arts, but I think TKD has a great chance of being around for many more years.  In only 56 years, it has spread all over the world, became an olympic sport and is one of the most popular martial arts in the entire world.  TaeKwon-Do has achieved a great deal of success in terms of growth and development.  Even after 56 years, it still stands for character development and building a more peaceful world.  Oh, and let’s not forget its a great means of self-defense.   I know I am very basis, but I’ve trained in many martial arts and ITF TaeKwon-Do still is among the most technically superior…  Not to bad for that so called “kicking art”.  I’ve been in it many years of my life, let’s hope we do a good job passing it on to the next generation so it can have another 56 years!

Dragon Star Martial Arts does well at local tournament

I love going to the Souderton tournament each year.  Not only is it a well run event with great environment/culture, it takes me back to the old days at Master Murray’s Do-Jang!  I can remember lots of great experiences in my early years of competing and seeing old friends is certainly a plus.  As for watching my students compete…  I probably for the first time, sort of laid back and watched without getting too involved with coaching and judging.  We really had a nice cross section of different ages and ranks that made up Team Dragon Star.  I really enjoyed watching them compete and interact with each other.  I was so please with how they performed and how respectful they acted.  They won 10 gold and 2 silver medals, I was so proud of them.  I really glad they got to experience such success!

Now I’d like to see if I can get my other students involved in competing in tournaments…

Dragon Star Martial Arts – YouTube Channel

I just created a YouTube Channel for Dragon Star Martial Arts and uploaded some awesome instructional ITF patterns videos that we created.  They are pretty cool, we used members of the ITF USA TaeKwon-Do Team including one of our team coaches.  Mr. Alioa from Asahi Dojo created a cool promotional clip that was added also.  I am really hoping to get some really great clips from testing, seminars, workshops, tournaments and demos to add to the videos.  Stay tuned for more posts and don’t forget to subscribe to our video channel.

Dragon Star Martial Arts – 9th Anniversary

April 1st marks Dragon Star Martial Arts 9th Anniversary.  Thanks to my family, friends and all the wonderful students that helped get Dragon Star to be so successful.  To think, I got the opportunity to have a hobby and turn it into a career that I get to do everyday.  I knew a long time ago that this was my calling and was what I was meant to do.

We started out with nothing, eight dedicated students on the 2nd floor of an old, dirty run down flea market with no HVAC.  We have come a long way in many respects.  We are certainly not the Tiger Schulman of TaeKwon-Do but we have a full school and great facility that has produced a  handful of National Champions and a three World Champions sounds great to me.  More than that we have helped many people be the best people they can be.

I think we have a great foundation to build on for the next nine years!  We are a great family-oriented martial arts center that teaches two awesome traditional arts.
